Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Republic of Kalmykia as part of the national inspection of the system for the prevention of social orphanhood. The Commissioner met with Head of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov and held a meeting with heads of relevant agencies and organisations.
Maria Lvova-Belova noted that the inspection specialists had examined the management and funding models and conducted an audit of the institutions and organisations in the region. The republic is on a steady development track with respect to preventing social orphanhood, with well-functioning family assistance services. The Children’s Rights Commissioner emphasised the importance of building an assistance system for families in difficult life situations and socially unsafe conditions, without separating parents from their children.
Head of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov said that the region is developing a social orphanhood prevention system. The head of the region also noted that it is important to follow the trends that have proven effective to date, learning from the best practices of other regions.
During the meeting with representatives of the social orphanhood prevention system, the Children’s Rights Commissioner issued a number of recommendations.
