The President examined the results of the restoration work underway for the city’s 300th anniversary.
The President visited the restored St Catherine’s Cathedral. The cathedral was built in the 1830s, but it was detonated in 1939. Dmitry Medvedev noted the similarity between the historical and current appearance of the cathedral. The cathedral’s senior priest gave Mr Medvedev a gold-plated image of St Catherine.
Next, Dmitry Medvedev visited the Alexander Palace and made a note in the guestbook: ‘I am thrilled by the speed and quality of the palace’s restoration and the work done by the restorers.’
The President also visited the pavilion of the Hermitage, built in the mid-eighteenth century for summertime receptions of imperial guests.
The restoration works and modernisation of the city’s infrastructure are being conducted in Pushkin in accordance with a Presidential executive order regarding the celebration of the suburb’s 300th anniversary.
