Dmitry Medvedev gave instructions to the Prime Minister on the fire-fighting and relief efforts underway in a number of Russian regions.
The President said that large-scale rebuilding work and construction of new housing will require urgent funds to be made available and sent to the affected regions. Mr Medvedev also said it is important to make use of experience in putting up rapidly-constructed housing.
The Prosecutor General’s Office and the presidential plenipotentiary envoys to the Volga and Central Federal districts will take part in overseeing spending of the allocated funds.
Those affected by the fires need to be placed in temporary housing until new homes are built for them. Mr Medvedev also supported the Prime Minister’s proposal to evacuate children from smoke-affected areas.
During the telephone conversation, the President also gave the instruction for the Defence Ministry to provide any necessary assistance in fighting the fires.
The President stressed the need to pay timely compensation for the lost property and also make all relevant payments to the families of those killed and injured by the fires.
Mr Putin is currently on a visit to Nizhny Novgorod Region, one of the regions affected by the fires.
