Amendments to legislative acts following ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

December 3, 2014

Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law On Amendments to Russian Federation Legislative Acts concerning Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities following Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Federal Law amends Russian Federation legislative acts concerning relations in the areas of social protection, culture, transport, healthcare, communications and information, housing policy and electoral rights. The amendments aim to implement the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (ratified by the Russian Federation on May 3, 2012).

The Federal Law aims, on the basis of the Convention’s provisions, to form an interlinked system of powers and functions within the state administration system regarding procedures for ensuring that people with disabilities have access to facilities and services and also provision of assistance in realising their rights in all the main areas of life.
