Another two children have reunited with their families in Russia and Ukraine with assistance from Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova and with the State of Qatar’s mediation.
A family composed of a father and two daughters lived in Odessa, while their mother moved to Russia. After the father’s death in 2024, the younger daughter expressed a wish to reunite with her mother. Maria Lvova-Belova helped them and now the family lives in Russia.
Not so long ago, a 15-year-old boy reunited with his father in Ukraine. The boy lived with his mother in the Kherson Region. In early January 2022, the woman died of a protracted illness, and the boy remained in the care of his aunt, grandmother and grandfather. Later, he wished to move to his father’s.
Maria Lvova-Belova specified that the reunification of children with their relatives in Russia, Ukraine, and other countries was carried out at Vladimir Putin’s instructions. She thanked the State of Qatar for participating in the negotiations with Ukraine, accompanying children and their relatives, and incurring transport and other expenses. The International Committee of the Red Cross and representatives of related agencies have provided much assistance as well.
The Children’s Commissioner has helped a total of 22 children from 15 families to reunite with relatives in Russia and 101 children from 81 families – with relatives in Ukraine and third countries.
