Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to participants and guests of V Nevsky International Environmental Congress.
The message reads, in part:
“Congratulations on the opening of this fifth anniversary session of the Nevsky International Environmental Congress. You have many relevant environmental protection issues on your agenda, including more rational and effective use of natural resources, improving nature protection legislation, and prevention and cleanup of manmade disasters.
Addressing environmental issues is a key task for countries today if they wish to ensure stable development. We must comply strictly with the principles set out in international agreements, including the G8 Muskoka Declaration, spread the use of modern environmental standards and green technology in industry, energy, and transport, and make broader use of alternative energy sources.
It is my hope that your proposals and recommendations will be put to practical use and will help to bolster global environmental security.”
The Nevsky International Environmental Congress has taken place annually in St Petersburg since 2008.
