List of instructions concerning formalisation of Russia’s rights to the continental shelf in the northern and central Sea of Okhotsk

April 10, 2014

Vladimir Putin signed a list of instructions concerning formalisation of Russia’s rights to the continental shelf in the northern and central Sea of Okhotsk.

A number of ministries have been instructed to present coordinated proposals on the measures required to set Russia’s external borders on the extended continental shelf in the Sea of Okhotsk and to formalise Russia’s sovereign right to this territory in accordance with recommendations of the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

The Defence Ministry has been instructed to publish in Notices to Mariners the information that the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines and limited by the outer borders of Russia’s exclusive economic zone is Russia’s continental shelf.

The Foreign Ministry has been instructed to present to the UN Secretary General maps and other relevant information, including geological surveying data showing the adjusted external border of Russia’s continental shelf.
