Vladimir Putin congratulated Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Agency staff and all Russian polar explorers on Polar Explorer’s Day.
The message reads, in part:
“Congratulations on Polar Explorer’s Day, a holiday of the strong and courageous people who devoted their lives to the exploration of the Arctic and Antarctica.
Representatives of the current generation of polar explorers are worthy followers of the heroic pioneers of the North. You conduct much needed research and discover new deposits of natural resources, including those on the Russian continental shelf. You take an active part in pursuing national and international programmes on preservation of the unique natural environment of the Arctic and Antarctica and do a great deal to enhance Russia’s presence in those strategically important regions of the world. Your work makes a major contribution to developing mutually beneficial cooperation and good neighbourly relations in the polar regions of the Earth.”
