Sergei Ivanov, Special Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, took part in the session Challenges Facing the Ecology. Reforming the Waste Treatment Industry: Regulation, Experience, Problems and Solutions at the 3rd Yalta International Economic Forum.
Speaking at the forum Mr Ivanov voiced concern about waste removal and processing issues ahead of the tourist season in Crimea.
According to him, the cost of liquidating illegal dumpsites is fairly high. For example, 1.4 billion rubles went to clear a dump that stood in the way of building the third runway at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
The Special Presidential Representative believes that joining the GLONASS navigation system with the Platon tolling system for trucks weighing over 12 tonnes will assist in fighting illegal dumping. A sensor operating both in Platon and navigation systems, when installed in a truck, will let operators monitor garbage truck traffic.
The Yalta International Economic Forum is held from April 20 until 22. It brought together around 1,500 participants from 50 countries.
