Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants, organisers and guests of the 11th Nevsky International Ecological Congress, currently underway in St Petersburg.
The message reads, in part:
“Traditionally, politicians, scientists, experts, entrepreneurs and representatives of public organisations discuss issues related to the global environmental agenda during roundtable events and other discussions. They also exchange opinions on how to respond to challenges linked to climate change by pooling their efforts.
The slogan of the current Congress, Planet Earth: Harmony of Man and Nature, reflects the common striving of the international community to preserve and restore the environment as a vital component of sustainable development. This should primarily be achieved by complying with environmental safety requirements, safeguarding specially protected natural territories, ensuring the rational use of natural resources, building a closed-loop economy, and launching and implementing the relevant government programmes. The same goals are served by the Ecological Well-Being national project, the implementation of which started this year.
I am confident that the proposals and recommendations developed at your meeting, will be put into practice and will facilitate a joint search for solutions to the most pressing environmental issues.”
