Dmitry Medvedev and President of Finland Tarja Halonen visited a scientific research centre on Seili Island in the Baltic Sea, near the city of Turku.
The Centre of Environmental Research of the University of Turku is located on tiny Seili Island, which has an area of just 1.6 km sq. The centre carries out a range of scientific research into the Gulf of Finland marine territory, focusing primarily on aquatic ecology, long-term monitoring and simulation of the environmental situation in the Baltic Sea, and also historical, cultural, and archaeological research.
Mr Medvedev and Ms Halonen also visited a church museum on the grounds of the first Finnish hospital on Seili Island.
