Sergei Shoigu briefed Vladimir Putin on the results of the large-scale exercises by troops in the Eastern and Central Military Districts.
The Defence Minister told Vladimir Putin that all servicemen and subdivisions that participated in the large-scale exercises to review combat readiness among troops of the Eastern and Central Military Districts have returned to their permanent deployment stations, that everything went without incident and staff at all levels performed admirably.
The President made note of the professionalism, perseverance and energy displayed by the troops during the snap exercises in Russia’s Eastern Military District. Mr Putin expressed his hope that the results of this training will lead to the correct and far-reaching conclusions.
Combat readiness review for the Eastern and Central Military Districts’ troops began on July 13, 2013, following an order by the Commander-in-Chief. The primary purpose of the exercises was to review the units’ readiness to carry out combat missions, assess actions by military personnel, evaluate technical readiness and determine whether military formations and units are properly equipped with arms and military hardware.
Over 160,000 military service members from the Eastern and Central Military Districts participated in the exercises, using over 5,000 tanks and armoured vehicles, 130 Russian Air Force aircraft and helicopters in the long-range, military transport, fighter, bomber and army aviation categories, as well as 70 Navy ships. Units and formations carried out combat training missions at 17 test grounds, while Pacific Fleet ships held exercises in the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
