Special Operations Forces’ Day was established by Presidential Executive Order #103 of February 26, 2015, and is marked on February 27.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Comrade officers! I congratulate you on your professional holiday, Special Operations Forces’ Day.

Their creation marked an important milestone in our Armed Forces development, making them more mobile and combat ready. It gave the country another powerful and effective instrument with which to protect our national interests.

You have absorbed the special forces’ glorious and legendary traditions and the rich experience of many generations, and you have demonstrated the very best of your capabilities. You are present in the most difficult circumstances and have shown your ability to act in non-standard situations with fearlessness, resolve, and professional skill.

We will continue to develop the Special Operations Forces. They must be ready to carry out tasks immediately in any region, guarantee the security of Russia and its allies, and stand up to international terrorism or any other threat.

I am sure that you will not let us down, will remain faithful to your oath and your military duty, and will defend Russia and its people with honour and courage.

Thank you for your service. I wish you good health and success, and all the very best to your families and loved ones.
