Greetings on 100th anniversary of Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command Academy

December 15, 2017

Vladimir Putin congratulated the teaching staff, cadets and graduates of the Russian Federation Defence Ministry’s Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command Academy on its 100th anniversary.

The message reads, in part:

“This anniversary is a great event for cadets, the teaching staff and graduates of your legendary military school of higher learning, and for the Armed Forces of the country. You can rightly take pride in the heroic pages of the Academy’s history and in the many generations of its graduates representing a brilliant constellation of outstanding military chiefs and commanders. Their leadership ability, consummate professionalism and personal courage brought glory to the Fatherland. And of course, the feat performed by the “Kremlin cadets” in the Battle of Moscow will remain in the people’s memory forever.

Today the school continues to make a major contribution to the training of highly qualified officers, who carry on the military traditions of the school, uphold their Oath and military duty, and serve Russia honorably.”

Over the hundred years, 60,000 highly qualified specialists have been trained at the Academy. Alumni include five marshals and over 600 generals. Ninety-six officer graduates were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and 12 have received the title of the Hero of the Russian Federation.

During the Great Patriotic War, when German troops attacked Moscow, a cadet regiment was formed of Academy officers and cadets. On October 12, 1941, the regiment went into its first battle outside of Volokolamsk.
