Congratulations to Foreign Ministry staff and veterans on Diplomats’ Day

February 10, 2011

Dmitry Medvedev congratulated present and former Russian Federation Foreign Ministry staff on their professional holiday, Diplomats' Day.

The message reads, in part:

“Diplomatic service is a calling. Choosing this profession has always required readiness to engage in high-pressure work for the good of our Fatherland, striving for constant self-improvement, an analytical mindset, a multifaceted outlook, an ability to cooperate productively with colleagues and partners, and adhering to family values. Our country has very rich traditions of diplomatic service which you pursue and which, I am certain, you will pass on to your younger colleagues.

The mission you undertake is honourable and responsible: to represent our state, assert its national interests, and protect the rights of your compatriots. Today, Russia’s Foreign Ministry has a particularly significant role in implementing the priority goals in the development of our country which are modernising the economy and improving living standards. In order to fulfil this task, it is important to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with foreign nations, find effective instruments for fighting global challenges and threats, promote economic projects abroad and skilfully use our international partners’ know-how and resources.

I count on Russian diplomacy to continue offering original and creative solutions, employing advanced methods and technologies to reach the targets set by our state.”
