Law changing the date of State Duma election

July 15, 2015

Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law On Amending Articles 5 and 102 of the Federal Law On Elections to the Federal Assembly’s State Duma.

The Law moves the State Duma election date from the first Sunday of December in the year in which the current Duma deputies’ mandate ends to the third Sunday of September in the same year.

The Law also stipulates that the election of deputies to State Duma’s seventh convocation will take place on the third Sunday of September 2016. The State Duma’s seventh convocation will hold its first session no later than 30 days after the election.

State Duma deputies elected to the sixth convocation but not re-elected to the seventh convocation, or deputies of regional and local authorities not re-elected, will hold their parliamentary immunity and entitlement to social benefits through to December 4, 2016.
