January 3, 2011

Dmitry Medvedev signed Executive Order On Optimising the Number of Federal Civil Servants and Federal Government Agencies’ Workers.

The Executive Order envisages a phased reduction of the maximum number of federal civil servants and workers in central offices and territorial agencies of the federal executive bodies managed by the Government of the Russian Federation by no less than 20 per cent between 2011 and 2013.

The Government is also instructed to submit its proposals on reducing the maximum number of civil servants and workers of the federal executive bodies whose work is managed by the President of Russia, as well as the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, in 2011–2013.

In accordance with the Executive Order, both Chambers of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly, the Accounts Chamber, and the Central Election Commission must consider optimising the number of their civil servants and employees, and submit corresponding suggestions to the Government.
