The results of the Civic Chamber's efforts in 2010, future development of civil society and the role of social institutions in promoting civil accord and combating corruption were the subjects of discussion.
During the meeting, Dmitry Medvedev stressed that civil accord, as well as interethnic and interreligious harmony, is a vital prerequisite not only for the modernisation but also for the preservation of the Russian state. According to the President, in a multiethnic state it is essential to safeguard and promote the genuine values of all peoples and their cultural achievements.
Speaking about combating corruption, the President recalled his recent proposal for the Civic Chamber to prepare an annual report on the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts in the country.
Dmitry Medvedev also noted the role of the Civic Chamber in strengthening civil society and its participation in the drafting and subsequent examination of key bills.
