Presidential Adviser German Klimenko held a meeting with representatives from Russian media production companies and copyright holders to discuss observance of copyright and related rights on the Russian internet.
Meeting participants included VGTRK Deputy General Director Dmitry Mednikov, President of the Association of Internet Publishers Ivan Zasursky, Direktsiya Kino General Director Anatoly Maksimov, Director of the Expertise Centre at the Internet+Media Institute for Internet Development Alexander Mikheyev, and others.
Following the discussion, the meeting participants decided to establish a centre for intellectual property rights expertise within the Institute for Internet Development. The centre will provide a format for the internet industry and copyright holders to join efforts against the distribution of pirated content, improve the legal framework, and develop the market of legal media products in Russia.
“We need an efficient mechanism for cooperation. We can only succeed if we work together,” the Presidential Adviser noted. “We are meeting each other halfway to work out solutions that will benefit both the internet and the media industries. The Expertise Centre will serve the interests of both of these groups.”
