Maria Lvova-Belova visits Tatarstan

January 31, 2023, Republic of Tatarstan

On January 31, Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova had a working trip to the Republic of Tatarstan.

The trip was mainly dedicated to support for families raising children with disabilities. At the meeting between the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights and Head of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov, an agreement was reached on the development of a policy for early assistance in Tatarstan.

The republic was included among the pilot regions for strategic programmes under the children’s commissioner. A protocol will be introduced in the region to inform parents raising children with disabilities about state and public support measures as part of the Support through Life project.

According to the commissioner, it would be expedient to use Tatarstan’s experience in the rehabilitation of children with disabilities and have delegations from other regions, including the new territories, visit the republic.

It was also agreed to create a street social service for teenagers in the republic as part of the commissioner’s strategic programme, Teenagers of Russia. The service’s main goal is to prevent asocial behaviour among minors, to suggest algorithms for their future lives and employment, while using all the resources available in the region.

In addition, Rustam Minnikhanov supported the proposal to hold the jubilee 20th Congress of Commissioners for Children’s Rights in Tatarstan this spring.

During the trip, Maria Lvova-Belova visited the April Rehabilitation Centre for children and teens with disabilities and the Derbyshkinsky Orphanage for children with mental disorders.

Maria Lvova-Belova also met with the wives of those taking part in the special military operation. The conversation focused on support for the families of the military personnel and mobilised people with children.
