Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Sverdlovsk Region

July 16, 2025

Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova made a working trip to the Sverdlovsk Region based on the results of the nationwide inspection of the social orphanhood prevention system. She visited children’s facilities, held a meeting with the heads of social orphanhood prevention establishments, and met with families.

During the meeting, the children’s ombudsman expressed gratitude to the staff of the social orphanhood prevention system of the Sverdlovsk Region for implementing the recommendations issued to them during the inspection. The region’s participation in the Vyzov (Challenge) special project has had a positive effect. The goal of the project is aimed at intervening with the child’s family and helping families keep their children. Overall, 14 pilot regions are taking part in that project.

A year ago, there were 2,505 children in 70 orphanages in the Sverdlovsk Region. Today, the number of children living at these institutions has decreased by 9.5 percent; 887 children have reunited with their families through the personal efforts of the regional commissioner.

The children’s commissioner has mentioned a number of positive changes and effective measures taken towards this end within the social orphanhood prevention system of the Sverdlovsk Region.

Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Teenager Socialisation Centre, which was established with her assistance in Pervouralsk in 2025. The centre has been created to help the teenagers who broke the law mend their ways and see new opportunities.

The children’s ombudsman also visited the Children’s Home, the Children’s Hospice regional palliative care centre, and the crisis centre of the interregional public organisation for helping families with children in difficult life situations.
