Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin took part in 1st Russian-Armenian Interregional Forum

During his working visit to the Republic of Armenia, the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office took part in the 1st Russian-Armenian Interregional Forum Toward New Achievements of Russian-Armenian Interregional Cooperation.

Sergei Naryshkin read a message of greetings from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to the forum participants and guests, which emphasised the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two states.

The Chief of Staff said that the ambitious programme and broad representation will allow the forum’s participants to achieve practical agreements on specific issues, and the forum will contribute to further development of cooperation at the regional level, strengthen the allied relations between Russia and Armenia.

A number of bilateral documents on economic, humanitarian, scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries were signed at the Forum.

Sergei Naryshkin met with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. During the visit, Mr Naryshkin also met with Chief of Staff of the Armenian Presidential Administration Karen Karapetyan.

Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II received Sergei Naryshkin at his residence in Echmiadzin. During the meeting, the Chief of Staff stressed that the Russian and Armenian churches play an important role in the development of humanitarian ties between the two countries.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the restored Memorial to Russian soldiers who fell in battle of Oshakan in 1827 during the Russian-Persian war, Mr Naryshkin said: “The enduring quality of the historic ties between our nations is vitally important. This magnificent monument will be another symbol of friendship between the Armenian and Russian people.”

The first Sukhoi Superjet 100 was handed over to Armavia at the Zvartnots Airport in the presence of Sergei Naryshkin. The liner was named after the first man in space Yury Gagarin.

Mr Naryshkin also attended the opening ceremony of the Road Infrastructure Diagnostic Centre of the South Caucasus Railway.
