Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin had a working meeting at the Kremlin with President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity.
The meeting discussed bilateral partnership matters, including economic ties, with particular attention given to the work done so far to rebuild and develop the republic’s infrastructure. Also discussed were the practical steps the South Ossetian authorities are taking to make the republic’s economy more attractive for investment by Russian business.
The social and political situation in the republic as the presidential election there draws near was also a subject of detailed discussion at the talks, with Mr Naryshkin noting that the people of South Ossetia alone have the right to decide who will be the republic’s next president. Mr Naryshkin said that Russia’s leadership is confident that that the two countries will continue to strengthen their cooperation and that Russia will work with whoever the people of South Ossetia choose to be their president.
