Working visit by Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin to Irkutsk

September 14, 2011, Irkutsk

At Europe-Russia-Asia Pacific: Developing the Energy Sector international conference held within the framework of the 7th International Baikal Economic Forum.

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin spent September 13–14 in Irkutsk.

During his working visit, Sergei Naryshkin participated in the Europe-Russia-Asia Pacific: Developing the Energy Sector international conference held within the framework of the 7th International Baikal Economic Forum. Speaking at the conference, Sergei Naryshkin stated that Russia expects to become a key player in the integration process between the Western and Eastern energy markets. “The Russian side is satisfied with the development of cooperation with Europe and Asia in the energy sector. We can resolve major challenges, including integrating western and eastern energy markets, in the space of the Russia-Europe-Asia Pacific region,” Mr Naryshkin remarked. The Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office expressed certainty that Russia can play a leading role in the process, not just as a supplier of energy resources, but also as a coordinator, ensuring the reliable progression of interregional cooperation.

During his trip to Irkutsk, Sergei Naryshkin visited the region’s test centre that develops computer software for Russia’s healthcare facilities. The centre works to combine and unify existing software products in Russia, as well as distributing them to medical facilities in the Siberian Federal District.

On September 14, Mr Naryshkin participated in a session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Business Council.

In addition, Sergei Naryshkin attended celebratory events marking Irkutsk’s 350th anniversary and presented state decorations for labour achievements and many years of conscientious work. Recipients included writer Valentin Rasputin, who was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky.

Mr Naryshkin participated in the opening of Russian pianist Denis Matsuev’s House of Music, as well as a memorial to the Irkutsk founder and a memorial to Peter and Fevronia. He also visited the Nizhnyaya Naberezhnaya (Lower Quay) and the Moscow Gates, erected ahead of the city’s celebration.

Sergei Naryshkin toured the historic Irkutsk Sloboda (130th district) district, located near the recently constructed bridge over the Angara. This area was chosen by city administration as a location for renovated and restored buildings as well as buildings moved from other parts of the city, representing architectural value.
