Meeting of the Commission to Counter Attempts to Falsify History to the Detriment of Russia's Interests

September 27, 2011

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin chaired a meeting of the Commission to Counter Attempts to Falsify History to the Detriment of Russia's Interests.

Russian historians, state officials, and the heads of major Russian media outlets discussed together the search for new approaches to historical and cultural education in the country, and the way history is portrayed in the media, works of art and literature.

Mr Naryshkin noted in his remarks at the meeting the important role that development of information technology plays in historical and cultural education. “They make it possible to find the required historical information a lot faster, make the information itself broader and more open, and make it possible to compare different points of view,” he said.

Mr Naryshkin pointed at the need to raise the standard of scientific and historical review of literary works on historical themes. “This is something that recognised academic centres and prominent scholars should do,” he said.

Sergei Naryshkin also proposed broader use of the historic simulation method that makes it possible to achieve maximum objectiveness and reconstruct and evaluate historical events in comprehensive fashion.
