Following the official welcoming ceremony, Vladimir Putin and the President of China Hu Jintao had a one-on-one discussion. Later the talks continued in expanded format.
A package of bilateral cooperation agreements was signed following the talks. In particular, Russia and China issued a joint statement on further deepening the trust-based partnership and strategic cooperation, initialled a Protocol to the Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in construction of a nuclear power plant in China and Russia’s loan to China.
A memorandum of understanding on strengthening cooperation in industry, energy and the tourism sector was signed in the presence of Vladimir Putin and Hu Jintao. An agreement was signed between Russia’s ITAR-TASS news agency and China’s Xinhua agency on information collaboration. A roadmap has been signed on individual areas of Russian-Chinese cooperation in nuclear energy.
In addition, the two sides signed the Protocol on the establishment of the Russian-Chinese Investment Fund Management Company and the approval of the basic principles of its activities; the Framework Agreement on Cooperation between the Development Fund of the Centre for Research and Commercialisation of New Technologies and the Administrative Committee of the Zhongguancun Science Park; the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Russian Export Credit and Investment Insurance Agency and the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation; a credit agreement between Vnesheconombank and the China Development Bank on the construction of the Taishet Aluminium Smelter; and the Cooperation Agreement between the VTB Leasing bank and the Export-Import Bank of China.
Five more documents on cooperation in aircraft building, energy, tourism, wagon building and petrochemical industry were signed on the sidelines of the state visit.
The two presidents also made statements for the press.
