Beginning of meeting with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr President, colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to meet with members of the Azerbaijani delegation on the sidelines of the Caspian Summit.
Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan have always been friendly and trust-based. We are very happy that our relations are continuing to develop in the same vein, and in different areas, including some very sensitive areas.
We have positive economic trends as well. In spite of certain problems in the global and Russian economies, we have nevertheless observed an increase in trade recently – it is small, but it is nevertheless an increase of 2%. So we are always happy for the opportunity to meet, talk, and discuss all our bilateral issues.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev: Thank you, Mr President.
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on the successful completion of the summit, which, according to our common assessment, was a breakthrough summit. Why? Because important decisions were reached in terms of bringing the parties’ positions closer together, and these decisions will certainly play an important role in further cooperation in the Caspian region.
As for our bilateral relations, I am happy that we are maintaining a constant dialogue. We met last month, and this is an indicator of the level of our relations today. During this time, delegations from each of our countries have also made reciprocal visits.
We have very good trends in all areas: in the economy, politics, energy and matters pertaining to humanitarian cooperation. In just a few days, we will hold a humanitarian forum that was initiated by Russian and Azerbaijani representatives.
Thus, we are seeing positive movement in all areas, which makes us very happy. So I think that in the future, we will also see successful cooperation between our two nations. Thank you again for your hospitality.
Vladimir Putin: Thank you.
