Telephone conversation with President of Azerbaijan

December 24, 2010

Dmitry Medvedev had a telephone conversation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

The two presidents exchanged New Year’s wishes, expressed their satisfaction with the level of development reached in bilateral relations over the last year, and discussed future planned contacts.

Mr Medvedev also congratulated Mr Aliyev on his birthday.

The President sent his Azerbaijani counterpart a telegram of congratulations too, in which he said, in particular:

“Your work as President is deservedly linked to Azerbaijan’s new successes in building a modern and fast-growing nation. Your country’s considerable economic and social achievements and the steady increase in its international standing are worthy of the highest praise.

I value the good personal relations that we have developed. Your commitment to expanding the strategic partnership between our countries contributes much to strengthening the traditions of friendship and good-neighbourliness, and developing the multifaceted cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan.

I am sure that active cooperation between our countries will continue to serve not only our own peoples’ and countries’ interests but also help to strengthen stability and security in the Caucasus.”
