Presidential instructions on ensuring people’s safety and security in the transport system and public places

January 29, 2011

Dmitry Medvedev approved a list of instructions on ensuring security in the transport system, transport infrastructure facilities, and other public places.

The President instructed the Russian Government to submit to the State Duma a draft federal law on trade in explosives and fireworks, which will require them to be marked in such as way as to make it possible to establish their manufacturers and the parties in their trade.

The instructions concern, in particular, setting up an integrated organisation to develop, prepare and operate technical equipment designed to guarantee safety in public places, expanding use of sniffer dogs in the Interior Ministry’s departments, and bolstering anti-terrorist protection for housing and social sector facilities.

The Government has also been instructed to take measures needed to ensure security in the transport system, transport infrastructure facilities and other public places, and also carry out an audit on the efficient use of funds allocated for the purchase of security equipment.
