Presidential Aide and Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport Igor Levitin held the first meeting of the working group for preparing a joint session of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport and the Russia 2018 Steering Committee on the topic of Developing Football in Russia and Providing Sports Infrastructure, Taking Into Account Preparations for the FIFA 2018 Football World Cup.
Head of the working group and Governor of Samara Region Nikolai Merkushkin briefed the meeting participants on the initial results of work to prepare a report for the President.
Participants in the meeting included representatives from federal and regional executive agencies and members of the scientific and sports community. The meeting addressed issues of developing a system of sports competitions at various levels, preparing an athletic reserve and national teams, and developing professional and grassroots football.
