Instruction to establish a commission to investigate the causes of the accident at the Severnaya mine

Vladimir Putin instructed the Government to establish a commission to investigate the causes of the accident at the Severnaya mine in Vorkuta, and provide assistance to the families of those killed and injured.

The President discussed the situation with the search and rescue work and assistance for the victims’ families in telephone calls with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov, and Acting Head of Komi Republic Sergei Gaplikov.

On February 25, a rock collapse occurred at a depth of 748 metres at the Severnaya mine in Vorkuta. There were 110 people in the mine at the moment of the accident. Eighty people have been brought to the surface. Eight were injured. Four people were killed in the accident and 26 people are still missing.
