Following the accident at the Mir mine in the city of Mirny, the President ordered Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov to go to accident site and head a rescue and emergency relief commission.
The accident happened at the Mir diamond mine on August 4, when waters from the depleted pit flooded the underground mine, trapping 142 miners. A total of 133 miners have been brought to the surface. The rescuers are still searching for nine missing workers.
