Vladimir Putin and Mr Orlov discussed the region’s social and economic development.
Attention focused in particular on agriculture, investment, the social sphere and economic sectors in which the region has competitive advantages.
Mr Orlov briefed the President on the start of diamond mining operations and the launch of an ore-enrichment plant in Arkhangelsk Region. He also spoke about the forestry sector, which he described as the mainstay of the region’s economy, with potential not just in terms of goods it can produce, but also in terms of developing new fields such as bioenergy.
