Presidential Adviser Alexandra Levitskaya chaired a regular meeting of the Presidential Commission for Veteran Affairs.
The meeting participants discussed the draft report on the state policy concerning veterans, which was prepared in accordance with the protocol of the meeting of the Russian Pobeda (Victory) Organising Committee, approved by the Presidential instruction of May 4, 2017.
Labour and Social Protection Minister Maxim Topilin reported on the main provisions of the draft report and on measures to improve the state policy concerning veterans.
Deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities Nikita Stasishin spoke about the provision of housing to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and other hostilities. Deputy Healthcare Minister Sergei Krayevoy reported on the quality of medical services for veterans and the provision of medicines to them.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the Russian Veterans Union, the Moscow City Council of Veterans of War, Labour, Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies, the Russian Union of Afghan War Veterans and the Pensioners Union, as well as delegates from the regions’ executive bodies of power and Commission members.
The meeting participants agreed on the need to monitor compliance with laws on state support to veterans within the framework of the Unified State Social Protection Information System, which the Pension Fund is creating.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has been recommended to work with the interdepartmental working group to update the draft report with due regard for the proposals and criticism expressed at the Commission’s meeting.
