Sergei Sobyanin briefed Dmitry Medvedev on Moscow's socioeconomic development in 2011 and progress in the project of the city's expansion.
In particular, the Mayor reported that in 2011 Moscow posted an 8% growth in investment. He also noted that for the first time in 23 years Moscow had natural population growth, with births exceeding deaths.
Sergei Sobyanin also said that a competition is to be held soon for the development concept of the entire Moscow metropolitan area.
Separately, the Mayor informed the President about assistance to victims of a fire at a restaurant in the south-west of the capital, and the investigation into the causes of the tragedy.
On January 9, a gas cylinder exploded in a restaurant, after which a fire broke out, causing a partial collapse of the ceiling and the roof. Two people were killed and many injured.
