The presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan attended a screening of the film “Panfilov’s Twenty-Eight Guardsmen”

October 4, 2016, Astana

After the Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum, Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbayev watched new Russian-Kazakh film “Panfilov’s Twenty-Eight Guardsmen”, directed by Andrei Shalopa.

The film tells the story of the soldiers of the 316th Rifle Division under the command of Gen. Ivan Panfilov, which took part in the defence of Moscow in November 1941 and consisted mostly of Kazakhs and Russians.

The film “Panfilov’s Twenty-Eight Guardsmen” became Russia’s largest crowdfunding project. Over 35,000 people contributed to the online fundraising campaign that covered two-thirds of the film’s budget. The ministries of culture of Russia and Kazakhstan also supported the film’s production.

The official premiere of the film is scheduled for November 2016.
