Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud following the passing of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud.
The Russian leader noted that the Kingdom and the entire Saudi nation have suffered an irreparable loss. “King Abdullah was known as a wise and consistent statesman and politician, a leader who enjoyed the love and respect of his subjects and a well-deserved reputation in the international arena. His Majesty ruled his country confidently and effectively during key stages of its development, and did a great deal to improve the standard of living in the country, to develop social institutions in the Kingdom, and to fight against terrorism at various levels,” the President of Russia said in his message of condolences.
Vladimir Putin praised the contribution of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud to a just settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Interreligious interaction received a new impetus and a solid foundation for the dialogue of civilisations was laid on the King’s own initiative and with his active participation.
The Russian leader noted his fruitful meetings and talks with the King of Saudi Arabia in Moscow and Riyadh, which confirmed the traditionally friendly Russian-Saudi relations, and their mutual commitment to further strengthening and expanding bilateral ties in all areas.
The President of Russia expressed confidence that the positive foundation created during the reign of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud will ensure continued progress and prosperity of the Saudi state and contribute to regional stability and security.
