Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the head of the House of Saud, King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud in connection with the tragedy near the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
The Russian President stressed that Russia shares the sorrow over the many casualties among the pilgrims who have arrived for the annual Hadj pilgrimage.
Vladimir Putin conveyed his sympathy to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
On the previous day, a construction crane fell on the Masjid al-Haram – the biggest mosque in Mecca. Latest reports say over 100 pilgrims were killed in the tragedy and more than 230 injured.
