Meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov

February 9, 2019, Sochi

Vladimir Putin had an informal meeting in Sochi with President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov.

The two leaders had a detailed discussion of bilateral relations and exchanged views on a number of regional issues.

The discussion also covered preparations for the Russian President’s upcoming visit to Kyrgyzstan in spring.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr Jeenbekov, thank you for accepting my invitation and coming for such a brief and in-depth, I would say, working visit.

As we agreed, we will be preparing for our next meeting in late March, to be held in Kyrgyzstan. We will continue our conversation both regarding economic cooperation and our joint efforts to consolidate the Eurasian Economic Community – there is work to be done.

We just spoke about our efforts to protect the common customs contour. Here, Russia did everything it could to render Kyrgyzstan the necessary support. We will of course continue to discuss our work in the field of military construction and cooperation. We need to examine the defence industry in order to keep your enterprises busy.

And, of course, migration policy. We understand how sensitive this is for Kyrgyzstan.

There are some other issues that you raised today for joint discussion and joint work in the nearest future. In the upcoming one and a half months our colleagues will work on them, and at our meeting in Kyrgyzstan we, I hope, will finalise those issues that you highlighted today.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov: Thank you very much for the opportunity to meet with you and discuss relevant issues of bilateral cooperation.

We are looking forward to your visit, a state visit, to Kyrgyzstan. This is a very important political event for us. We are always glad when you visit Kyrgyzstan. When we meet, many issues of our bilateral cooperation are resolved

We appreciate that you always support us practically in all issues of bilateral, multilateral cooperation between our countries. We highly value our historic friendship, which has been consolidating for centuries. We highly value this and are looking forward to seeing you in Kyrgyzstan.

Vladimir Putin: Thank you.
