Vladimir Putin held a meeting with President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev to discuss the ongoing reform of the Academy and its role in coordinating the country’s scientific and technological development.
The RAS President explained how the Academy saw the implementation of its tasks, primarily in coordinating the Strategy of National Scientific and Technological Development, pursuant to instructions from the head of state.
They also discussed the role of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a party ordering fundamental and exploratory research to be carried out by its institutes. According to Alexander Sergeyev, this is related to a very important task of forecasting the scientific, technological and socioeconomic processes in the country. The Russian Academy of Sciences also regards as its task the coordination of fundamental and exploratory research aimed at renewing the available scientific and technological assets in the defence and security area.
Issues related to the development and application of scientific diplomacy also came under discussion.
Vladimir Putin stressed that he was prepared to do all that was necessary to facilitate the development of all these areas and noted that Alexander Sergeyev’s work as the head of such a complex and nationally important organism as the Academy of Sciences has been quite successful.
