Dmitry Medvedev had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, initiated by the German side.
The main topic of the conversation was the Middle East peace process, in light of its discussion at the UN General Assembly session underway in New York.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the joint statement issued by the Quartet of international mediators of the Middle East peace process, which orients all parties toward resuming constructive negotiations.
In this regard, Angela Merkel gave a high assessment to Russia’s input into preparing this important document, as well as Russian-German political cooperation.
Dmitry Medvedev and Angela Merkel also discussed the schedule for contacts at the highest level and touched on various current bilateral cooperation issues.
