Vladimir Putin sent messages of congratulations to President of Germany Joachim Gauck and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on the country’s national holiday, Day of German Unity.
The President of Russia gave a high appraisal of the great positive potential that Russia and Germany have built up in their relations and noted how important it is to preserve and build on this foundation in the current difficult period.
Mr Putin said that Russia seeks to develop constructive dialogue with Germany. “We hope the reciprocal Years of Russian and German Language and Literature that we are holding in our two countries will strengthen mutual understanding and trust between our nations,” he said.
The President said he is confident that joint effort will enable the two countries to continue developing the full range of their mutually advantageous cooperation and continue working as partners to resolve current international issues in the interests of both nations and in the aim of ensuring stability and security in Europe and throughout the world.
