Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, President of France Francois Hollande and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
The four leaders continued their discussion of the crisis situation in Ukraine in the context of international efforts to settle the conflict and stressed the need to ensure a lasting ceasefire in Donetsk and Lugansk.
They also noted the importance of holding a meeting of the contact group as soon as possible in order to facilitate implementation of the Minsk agreements and establish a dialogue between Kiev and southeast Ukraine. The outlined priority tasks include exchanges of people forcibly taken into custody and having both sides in the conflict withdraw their heavy armaments away from the contact line.
The four leaders also discussed economic rebuilding in the conflict-affected regions and provision of humanitarian and social aid for the people there.
The four leaders agreed to continue their telephone contacts in the ‘Normandy format’ very soon.
