Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel at the German side’s initiative.
During the exchange of opinions on Libya, the two leaders stressed the expediency for stepping up political and diplomatic efforts to settle the crisis, including with the mediation of Germany and the UN.
The situation in Syria was also touched upon.
In addition, the two leaders discussed issues of cooperation in the gas industry, confirming their commitment to further support the Nord Stream 2 project and noting the progress on negotiations to continue the Russian gas transit across Ukrainian territory after January 1, 2020.
A positive assessment was given to today’s ‘all-for-all’ exchange of detained persons in Donetsk Region.
Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel exchanged Christmas and New Year greetings and agreed on further contacts.
