Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte.
Vladimir Putin and Giuseppe Conte discussed the developments in Libya. Both sides emphasised the need for a peaceful resolution of the crisis. In this connection, they expressed their support for the international community’s efforts to help settle the intra-Libyan crisis with UN mediation.
The leaders also touched upon certain aspects of the current situation in Syria.
At the request of Giuseppe Conte, Vladimir Putin informed him of the results of the Normandy Four summit held in Paris on December 9. They stressed the need to consistently implement the Minsk Package of Measures and the agreements reached in the Normandy format, primarily to ensure that the permanent special status of Donbass is fixed in the Ukrainian Constitution.
Key issues on the bilateral agenda were discussed. Vladimir Putin and Giuseppe Conte reaffirmed their shared intention to further develop Russian-Italian cooperation.
They also exchanged Christmas and New Year greetings and agreed to maintain contacts at various levels.
