Vladimir Putin visited the Konevsky Nativity of the Theotokos Monastery on Lake Ladoga’s Konevets Island.
The monastery, built in the early 19th century, was later badly damaged and in a severely poor condition. In 2016, Vladimir Putin visited Konevets and gave the order for the restoration of the main cathedral and the skete of the Konevskaya Icon of the Mother of God. The monastery has now been completely restored through efforts and finances of Rosneft oil company. During his visit, the President was accompanied by Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin.
