Vladimir Putin congratulated President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and all of Ukraine’s people on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Kiev from Nazi occupation.
In his message of congratulations, the President noted that in the battle for Ukraine’s capital, which was one of the decisive battles in the Great Patriotic War, Russians, Ukrainians, and people from all parts of the Soviet Union heroically fought side by side.
“In celebrating this anniversary, we show our respect and gratitude towards our fathers and grandfathers, who defended their homeland at the cost of such immeasurable sacrifice and won for us the right to a free and peaceful life,” Mr Putin stressed. “It is our moral duty to honour their memory, preserve as sacred the traditions of friendship and solidarity they bequeathed us, and do our utmost to strengthen the centuries-old ties between Russia and Ukraine.”
The President passed on his best wishes for health, happiness, well-being and good spirits to Great Patriotic War veterans in Ukraine.
