Dmitry Medvedev sent his congratulations to President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych on Independence Day, Ukraine's national holiday.
The message reads, in part:
“Russia and Ukraine share spiritual roots, glorious history and centuries-old traditions of good neighbourliness. Using this fertile ground, we successfully develop a multi-faceted strategic partnership, achieve tangible results in our trade and economic ties and coordinate approaches to a wide range of issues on regional and international agendas within the framework of integration associations and multilateral organisations.
I would like to particularly highlight the attitude we share to finding constructive solutions to all issues without exception, on the principles of equality and respect for each other’s interests. We are facing a series of ambitious challenges, including improvement of investment cooperation, giving new impetus to humanitarian contacts and further strengthening the cross-border and interregional connections. We are expecting substantial returns from joining the potential of our two nations in knowledge-intensive industries and industrial cooperation.
The development of close and productive ties in these and other areas are designed to encourage the continuation of active political dialogue at all levels, effective operation of the Russian-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission and its subordinate agencies. I am confident that the bilateral events with our participation, scheduled to take place this autumn, will further consolidate the positive dynamics of Russian-Ukrainian relations for the benefit of our nations and in the interests of stability and security on the European continent.”
