Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the United States Barack Obama on the American side’s initiative.
The leaders gave a high assessment to the talks in Vienna on settling the situation concerning the Iranian Nuclear Programme. It was noted that success following many years of efforts to find a political and diplomatic resolution to this issue became possible thanks to constructive cooperation between the “sextet” nations, Iran, and the EU.
Both sides stressed that the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear programme meets the interests of the entire international community, helping strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation regime and decreasing tensions in the Middle East. In this respect, the presidents emphasised the role of Russian-U.S. dialogue in ensuring security and stability in the world.
The leaders expressed a mutual intention to continue joint work in the interest of sustainable implementation of the Vienna agreements, as well as certain other current international matters, including countering international terrorism.
Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama congratulated one another on a special date in Russian-American relations: the 40th anniversary since the Soyuz-Apollo orbital flight.
