Dmitry Medvedev congratulated President of the United States of America Barack Obama on Independence Day.
The message reads, in part:
“Russian-American ties are showing ever more confident and dynamic development. Through our joint efforts we have taken great strides in strengthening strategic stability and nuclear non-proliferation. We are working together effectively on resolving current international political, financial and economic problems. This progress was made possible by our mutual desire for open and equal dialogue and our readiness to take each other’s interests into account.
It is important now to expand our bilateral agenda, enriching it with promising new fields for cooperation. This was the constructive spirit that prevailed during my visit to the United States.
My visit to San Francisco and Silicon Valley was very interesting and useful in the context of Russia’s ongoing economic modernisation effort. I have warm recollections of our friendly discussions in Washington. Our talks, as always, were concrete in substance, and the agreements that resulted will give the needed impetus to active work on building up a mutually advantageous and pragmatic partnership between our countries.
I am confident that constructive and good-neighbourly relations between Russia and the USA are in the genuine interests of our peoples and in the interests of security and stability throughout the world. In such circumstances, any attempts to belittle the importance of the agreements we reach or hinder our consistent efforts as partners have no future and are doomed to fail.
On this holiday I want to wish you and your family good health and prosperity, and wish all Americans success and a flourishing life.”
